Diminutive size working and firing Lefaucheux pinfire vest pocket Derringer with original full gold plate, ivory grips and pipe case. The pistol measures 3 ½” overall with 1 ¾” barrel of approximately 5 mm pin fire. The barrel is finally script engraved with full Lefaucheux address and the original ivory stocks show the initials V.P. scrimshawed on each side. The pistol retains 80% to 90% plus original rich gold finish with some losses at the breech and muzzle from being firedand now aging to a dark patina. The grips are fine to excellent. The trigger folds and the simple action just swings to the side for loading. The pistol is contained within its original to the period velveteen and satin lined pipe case withgold embossed name in the lid of the case. The case is in very good condition with some normal scuffs and slight aging. This pistol is the only example of this size pinfire we have seen gold plated and ivory gripped with a pipe casing. Aprominent French dealer who collected several hundred pinfires also agreed it is the only example he had seen cased and by tradition it was presented by Lefaucheux himself to a lady who had nursed him in the hospital during the 19th century
