Charles Dickens. A Child's History of England. London: Bradbury & Evans, 1851, 1852, 1853.
First editions, first issues. Three twelvemo volumes. 210; 214; 321 pages plus one page of advertisements at end. Engraved frontispieces by F.W. Topham.

Brick-red cloth with gilt decoration and lettering, blind stamped borders. Marbled endpapers and page edges. Boards are in good shape, with moderate bumping to corners. Spines of all three volumes are faded and worn; chips and cloth loss to Volumes I and III. Textblocks are very good, with pencil and ink inscriptions and notations by previous owners on front endpapers, bookplates on front pastedowns. Each volume was published separately around Christmas in 1851, 1852 and 1853. Dickens sporadically dictated chapters to Georgina Hogarth, the first few appearing in Dickens' Household Words as the year began; as each year came to a close they were issued in book form. A wonderful, desirable set of Dickens books!

Shipping: Books & Catalogs (view shipping information)
