Two twelvemo volumes. 308; 306 pages. Six pages of publisher's ads at end. The second page of the Volume I contents is incorrectly paginated "xvi," due to a last-minute decision to cancel Dickens' original introduction.

Blindstamped purple boards with gilt lettering at spine. Pale yellow endpapers, fore-edge and lower edge of leaves is untrimmed. Board edges and spines worn. Bumped corners. Boards faded to a pale tan, spines are sunned. Volume I coming out of the case, Volume II nearly out of the case, both volumes wanting professional restoration. Former owner's bookplate affixed to the front pastedown endpaper of Volume I, a second upside-down bookplate appears on the rear pastedown endpaper of Volume II. Small binder's sticker next to bookplate in Volume I. Textblock of both books shows typical age toning and occasional soiling; page edges somewhat brittle.

The great British author travels to America and offers his views of the cities and the people he sees along the way. This work didn't go over very well in America, receiving more criticism than any of his other works. Despite this, it sold very well, going into its fourth printing by the end of 1842.

Shipping: Books & Catalogs (view shipping information)
