Dick Sprang - Original Painting, "Secrets of the Batcave" (Gotham Graphics, 1995). "Secrets of the Batcave" was the first in a proposed series of limited-edition lithographs by master Batman artist Dick Sprang. Sprang was the artist often referred to as the "Good Bob Kane" back in the days when few comics creators received credit on the printed page, and all Batman art was credited to Bob Kane. Even without the by-line, Sprang's work was easy to spot, and has been popular with collectors for years. Unfortunately, much of his original art from the 1940s through to his retirement in 1963 has been lost, making the few surviving pieces highly desirable among collectors. This huge original for the limited edition print (which has since sold out), with an image size of 23" x 33" (board size 40" x 29", the largest ever done by Sprang), should be considered the ultimate Dick Sprang Batman original art, loaded with incredible detail taken from many classic stories and the 1960s television series. Included are images of many well-known villains of the past, drawn as only Sprang can. The art, drawn in ink and mixed media on heavy board, is in excellent condition. The back of the board has a hand-lettered statement of provenance and signature from Mr. Sprang, who passed away in 2000. Important notice: Heritage usually auctions material at the rate of 200-250 lots per hour. On some occasions eBay Live bid software or the Internet may not be able to keep up with the pace of the auction. We recommend placing a realistic absentee bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Occasionally the auctioneer may eliminate or reject an eBay Live bid, and the auctioneer may also reopen a lot after the close of the eBay live bidding (usually because we missed an audience bid), and may reject your bid even if it shows you as the winning bidder. By bidding via eBay Live, you agree that Heritage may award the lot to another bidder at its sole discretion under the circumstances described above or any other reasonable circumstances. Since eBay bids are not shown to us until we open the lot on the floor, we treat those bids just like floor bids. In most cases the floor responds before the eBay bid is presented to us, due to Internet lag time, so for consistency we have made it a policy that floor bids are always considered first over tie eBay live bids. Also please note that all Heritage lots purchased through eBay Live carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions before you bid.
