Dick Sprang - Original Cover Art for CFA-APA #13 (CFA-APA, 1988). This is a cover re-creation for Detective Comics #113 that Dick Sprang painted in July of 1985, and which was used as the cover for a fanzine entitled CFA-APA. This fanzine is dedicated to identifying artists and celebrating their work. Sprang is well known for his many years of artistic genius in drawing Batman and Robin during the Golden Age at DC. The color work on this piece is vibrant and even though Sprang did this re-creation some 40 years after he drew the original, his mastery and steady hands remain. This fantastic piece is signed by Sprang and includes the following notes written by him on the back of the art board: "I drew this cover in its original form in 1946. It appeared on Detective Comics no. 113, July 1946 as the lead-in to the magazine's sea story 'Crime on the Half-Shell' which I also drew. I did this painting of the cover, in its original size, in July of 1985. signed Dick Sprang." While Sprang did not draw the logo, a stat of the Detective Comics logo is included in this lot which could easily be added, should the winning bidder desire. The lot also includes a photocopy of an article showing Sprang at his art table that was taken in the mid-1940s and a picture of the cover to CFA-APA #13. The cover re-creation is in exceptional condition and measures approximately 15" x 20". Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour.
