Dick Hodgins Jr. - Half Hitch Illustration Original Art (1974). Half Hitch and his seagull mascot, Poopsie, dream of pleasant memories, which mostly involve girls and food. This charming illustration is the epitome of the slick, modern cartoon style Hank Ketcham and his studio developed for Dennis the Menace. Hank Ketcham created Half Hitch, during World War II, as a sort of a Naval version of George Baker's Sad Sack. Gag cartoons featuring the short sailor also ran for a couple of years in The Saturday Evening Post, starting in 1943. In 1970, Ketcham revived the character as a comic strip; Dick Hodgins Jr. drew it, while Bob Saylor wrote it. The image area of this whimsical vignette is 14.5" x 9.25", and the art is in Excellent condition.
