ANS, one page, on a 6.25 x 4 light blue Kensington Palace card, dated December 6, 1994. Diana writes: “Wishing you a happy birthday Steve, From Diana,” and accompanied by its original transmittal envelope, addressed in Diana’s hand, “Steve.” Also included is the birthday gift from Diana, a black leather wallet from Andrew Soos of London, gold monogrammed on the front “S. J. D.,” with a “D” and crown in the center of the front, and accompanied by its original box. In very fine condition.
“Steve” was Steve Davies, the family’s chauffeur—specifically, according to the British press, the driver for Prince William. The upcoming holidays were undoubtedly uncomfortable for Diana and the rest of the Royal Family that year. Although still married to Prince Charles at the time, two separate books published a month earlier—each detailing marital infidelities by both the Prince and Princess of Wales—hit bookstores.
