Detective Comics #35 (DC, 1940) CGC GD+ 2.5 Off-white to white pages. Most copies of this issue that have come on the market recently have had "Apparent" grades, so we're happy to offer a blue-label copy, and one with very nice page quality at that. A hypodermic needle is seen on the cover, and it's wielded by the Duc D'Orterre, who was actually the bad guy from the previous issue. By the way, while Batman had appeared on several covers up to this point, this issue marked the beginning of his run as permanent cover star, a streak that is still going in 2005! Speaking of memorable visuals, there's a striking image on the first panel of the book, showing Batman holding a smoking gun. The cover and art are by Bob Kane, with a Sheldon Moldoff assist. The usual backup detective features appear, most notably Speed Saunders (drawn here by Fred Guardineer). Only two unrestored copies of this issue have been certified with higher grades by CGC to date. CGC notes, "tape along spine of cover." Overstreet 2004 GD 2.0 value = $1,000. CGC census 12/04: 1 in 2.5, 2 higher. From the Northern Lights Collection.
