Detective Comics #27 (DC, 1939) Condition: Coverl
Detective Comics #27 (DC, 1939) Condition: Coverless. This is the first appearance of Batman, and the second most-valuable comic book issue of all, trailing only Action Comics #1 on every fan’s list of most-desired comics (it’s #2 in Overstreet’s ranking as well). The milestone debut of Batman (or rather “the Bat-Man”), with art by Bob Kane, is also the first appearance of Commissioner Gordon. Yes, this copy is missing its original cover, but it does come with a color-xeroxed cover (both the outside and inside covers, we might add). The book has some restoration, with replaced staples as well as paper replacement to the corners of some of the pages. The centerfold is detached, and the staple holes in the centerfold have been sealed. The outermost pages are tan, but the inside pages range from cream to off-white. Since a high percentage of the existing copies of this milestone comic are either low-grade, restored, or both, it would take quite a bit of looking to find one significantly better than our offering! Overstreet 2005 GD 2.0 value = $31,500.
