Desirable early thumbprint dust cover Winchester first Model 1873 lever action rifle, .44 cal., 24” round barrel, blue finish, wood stocks, #2488. This gun is in overall good condition showing a dark brown patina on metal surfaces with scattered spots of erosion and pin prick pitting, some older light cleaning to the sides of the receiver, fairly decent bore with some spots of pitting, good action and markings, overall good wood with wear and weathering but complete and tightly matched wood-to-metal fit. A hard-to-find early ’73 that is classic in appearance and would be a prize for any serious Winchester enthusiast’s collection. Est.: $4,000-$8,000.
