Desirable World War II U.S. Army Contract Union Switch & Signal Model 1911A1 Semi-Automatic Pistol

This is an excellent late WWII US Army contract Model 1911A1 as manufactured in the 1944 timeframe. The left side of the frame is stamped with the circled "RCD" initials of the US Ordnance inspector, LTC Robert Downie with a small "P" proof below the magazine release button and on top of the slide in front of the rear sight. The right side of the frame is stamped "UNITED STATES PROPERTY M 1911 A1 U.S. ARMY", over "No. 1086297". The left side of the slide is marked with the intertwined "US&S" company logo followed by "U.S. & S CO./SWISSVALE, PA. U.S.A.", with a "P" factory marking. It is equipped with a High Standard marked blue barrel, narrow hammer spur, stamped trigger, checkered slide catch, thumb safety, arched mainspring housing, and Keyes Fibre grips. This pistol is complete with one WWII magazine with a small letter "S" on the lip of the base plate.

Manufacture: Union Switch and Signal
Model: 1911A1
BBL: 5 inch round
Stock:
Gauge: 45 ACP
Finish: Dulite
Grips: brown plastic checkered
Serial Number: 1086297

Very fine with 97% plus of the original Du-Lite finish overall with edge and high spot wear, with finish loss on the front edges of the slide, the lower mainspring housing and on top of the barrel over the chamber area. The grips are near excellent with nice sharp distinct checkering on both sides, with only a couple of minor flat spots, one on each side. Mechanically excellent.
