Desirable World War II U.S. Army Contract Remington-Rand Manufactured M1911A1 Semi-Automatic Pistol

This is a fine example of a mid-WWII M1911A1 semi-automatic pistol manufactured in the last block of serial numbers at the end of 1943. The left side of the slide is marked "REMINGTON-RAND/SYRACUSE N.Y. U.S.A.". The top of the slide has the correct "P" proof in front of the rear sight with a matching "P" proof on the left side of the frame. The left side of the frame has the U.S. Army inspector initials, "FJA" for Ltc. Frank J. Atwood, with the noted "P" proof below the magazine release button. The right side of the frame is roll marked "UNITED STATES PROPERTY" over "NO. 1517004". Has the standard fixed sights, serrated slide stop, checkered thumb safety, checkered magazine release, serrated arched mainspring housing with lanyard loop and a stamped checkered trigger. The hammer is the later narrow version with the checkered spur. The barrel was manufactured by High Standard and is marked "HS" and "P" on the sides of the barrel lug. It is fitted with a set of brown checkered plastic grips with a "4" and "11" mold numbers on the inside. It is complete with one WWII blued magazine that has the small letter "S" on the lip.

Very fine as arsenal refurbished with 98% of the gray parkerized finish overall. The grips are excellent with nice distinct checkering on both sides and only minor handling marks. A nice representative example of a WWII Remington-Rand M1911A1 pistol.
