Desirable World War II Hungarian G98/40 Bolt Action Rifle with Leather Sling

Estimate: $2000 - 4000
This is a very nice, all original, unaltered WWII G98/40 service rifle. These rifles were originally manufactured as the Hungarian Model 35 bolt action rifle at the Hungarian, Metal Goods and Weapons Factory in Budapest, Hungary. After the Germans invaded Hungary and took over the factory the Germans continued to produce these rifle and designated them as the model G98/40 and the factory was given the wartime code of "jhv". The top of the receiver is marked with the 'Eagle/ 173' Waffenamt proof over 'jhv/44' the wartime code for the Hungarian factory and 1944 for the year of manufacture. The left receiver side wall is marked 'G98/40' and the left side of the receiver and barrel have the large German Eagle firing proof. There is a large "Eagle/ WaA173" proof in front of the trigger guard and a smaller one in the pistol grip area with the serial number and additional 'jhv' proof on the lower stock area. It is complete with an original leather sling, cleaning rod and front sight hood.
BBL: 24 inch round
Stock: walnut
Gauge: 7.92 mm Mauser
Finish: blue
Grips:
Serial Number: 9197
Condition: Very fine with 90% plus of the original blue finish overall with wear on the bolt body and handle from handling and cycling the bolt with more blue loss/thinning on the floor plate and trigger guard assembly overall. The stock and hand guard are both excellent with minor handling marks and a couple of pressure dents on the right side behind the lower barrel band. The proofs are clear and distinct and it has all matching numbered parts. A nice representative example of a desirable Nazi secondary issue bolt action rifle.
