Desirable Winchester Model 1866 Lever Action Saddle Ring Carbine

This is a very nice example of a Winchester Third Model 1866 Carbine that was manufactured in 1871. Fixed front sight integral with barrel band and folding two leaf rear sight marked for 100, 300 and 500 yards, saddle ring and staple on the left side of the receiver and distinctive crescent brass buttplate with cavity. The top of the barrel is marked with the two line Winchester Repeating Arms address and King's Improvement patent information just forward of the rear sight and the serial number is located on the lower tang behind the trigger with a small "L" and "Y" stamped behind it. Mounted with a smooth walnut forearm and straight grip stock with a crescent buttplate.

Very good plus. The barrel has a smooth mottled brown patina with traces of original blue (in the areas surrounding forearm and between the barrel and magazine tube). The lever and hammer have a grayish mottled patina. The brass has an even aged patina with 20% original bright nitre blue in the loading gate. The wood is very good with much of the oil finish remaining. The forearm shows minor dents and dings and the stock exhibits numerous scrapes and scratches. The hammer has traces of original casehardening. The markings are clear. Mechanically excellent.
