This particular Winchester Model 1866 Rifle was manufactured in 1869. The forward edges of the brass frame have the distinctive flare at the junction with the forend. The octagon barrel is fitted with a steel blade front sight and a folding ladder rear sight with a center notch graduated to 900 yards. There are sling swivels on the stock and forend cap. The hammer is knurled. The top of the barrel flat is roll stamped with the legend: "HENRY'S-PATENT - OCT.16.1860./KING'S- PATENT-MARCH.29 1866" in two lines ahead of the rear sight. An "A" inspection mark is stamped on the lower tang behind the serial number. The rifle has a blued barrel and magazine tube, casehardened hammer and loading lever and the distinctive brass forend cap, receiver and buttplate. The walnut stock and forend have an oil finish.

Very good, with a mixed brown and gray patina on the barrel and magazine, a deep aged patina on the brass, mixed brown patina on the hammer and lever, and scattered dents and handling marks overall. Stock is very good, with exception of a crack on the left side of the wrist and extending from the buttstock, along with pressure dens and scratches. Mechanically fine, but lever is a little loose. This early production 1866 Rifle would make a wonderful addition to any collection.
