Luftwaffe Model 30 Survival Drilling manufactured by J. P. Sauer. The drilling features two 12 gauge side-by-side barrels above a 9.3X74R rifle barrel. The drilling has dual triggers for the shotgun barrels and a single, set, trigger for the rifle barrel. The barrel selector is located on the tang; selection of the rifle barrel raises a "100 meter" folding express rifle rear sight located on the barrel rib. The drilling has a raised, matted sighting rib between the barrels; the rib has a steel express front sight with gold bead at the muzzle end of the rib. The safety lever is located on the left stock flat. Sling swivels are fitted to the under-barrel and stock. The drilling has blued barrels with color casehardened receiver, tang, trigger guard, forearm latch and pistol grip cap. The splinter forearm and pistol grip stock are oil-finished European walnut . The stock has an oval cheek piece, checkered pistol grip and black plastic buttplate with Sauer "SS" monogram. The forearm has fine checkering. The receiver and trigger guard are decorated with restrained foliate engraving and the Sauer "SS" monogram is engraved on the bottom of the receiver. All of the screw heads are engraved. The right side of the stock and right shotgun barrel are boldly stamped with the Luftwaffe Eagle and Swastika insignia. The bottom of the barrel lug is stamped with the Luftwaffe "Eagle/2" acceptance mark. The legend: "KRUPP-LAUFSTAHL" is stamped on the top of both shotgun barrels and on the left side of the rifle barrel. The rifle caliber designation "9.3 X 74R" is engraved in an oval on the top of the sighting rib. The bottom of each shotgun barrel is stamped with the gauge "12/65" followed by an "Eagle/N" proof mark. The rifle caliber and "Eagle/N" proof mark are stamped on the left side of the rifle chamber. The Sauer "SS" monogram and "Eagle/N" proof mark are stamped on the right receiver rail. The full serial number "336857" is engraved on the lower barrel tang and stamped on the top of the left receiver rail and the bottom of the rifle barrel. The partial serial number "6857" is stamped on the inside of the forearm. All of the serial numbers match. The drill is complete with the original aluminum transport case and accessories. The accessories include: (1) russet leather sling, (2) manual entitled "DRILLING M.30" dated "Juni 1941", (3) test target and (4) black cardboard carton for cleaning equipment. The cleaning equipment carton contains a three-piece, jointed, wooden cleaning rod with brass tip and four bore cleaning brushes. The aluminum transit case is painted gray and the lid is stenciled: "Drilling M 30/mit Munition u. Zubehor/ce" in three lines. The case interior is natural aluminum with wooden dividers covered with felt padding. A list of the contents of the case is stenciled in black on the inside of the lid. The chief of the Luftwaffe, Herman Goering, as an avid hunter and insisted on the finest equipment for his aviators. The high quality, commercial, Sauer Model 30 Drillings were procured and issued to Luftwaffe aircrews stationed in North Africa as survival weapons capable of taking most African game. The Sauer Model 30 Luftwaffe Survival Drilling ranks as one of the finest and most expensive firearms ever issued.

Condition: Excellent. The drilling retains 97% of the original blue and shows only storage wear. Wear is limited to some small spots of discoloration on the top of the right shotgun barrel and some scattered and very minor storage marks on the barrel group. The receiver retains 95% plus of the vivid case colors. The rifle and shotgun barrels are bright. The stock and forearm are in excellent condition with nearly all of the original finish. The fine checkering on the forearm and pistol grip is crisp. Wear is limited to scattered handling and storage marks. All of the markings on the barrel and receiver are sharp. The shotgun functions perfectly. The case is in very fine condition and retains much of the gray paint and all of the black markings on the lid. The leather handle is missing. The case interior is in fine condition with all of the wooden partitions and felt padding intact. The equipment list on the inside of the lid is fully legible. The scarce, leather sling is in excellent condition and appears to have never been un-coiled. The cardboard cleaning equipment box is in good condition with a hole in one end and a break in the other. The remaining cleaning equipment is in good condition. This is an excellent example of a rare and very desirable Sauer Model 30 Luftwaffe Survival Drilling with original case and many of the original accessories.
