This is a nice example of a WWII German turret sniper rifle that was manufactured by the Mauser factory that has been fitted with a late war Karl Kahles sniper scope. The turret mount rifles were considered the most efficient design of the K98 rifles and they were in service from their introduction in 1939 to the end of the war. The top of the receiver ring is covered by the front turret, the right side of the receiver is marked with a single "eagle 135" Waffenamt proof and the left side has a "eagle 135" and Nazi firing proofs flanking the serial number, with the receiver side wall marked "Mod. 98". The left rear of the barrel is marked with a Nazi firing proof and two "eagle 135" proofmarks. The rifle is fitted with an all blue sniper scope made by Kahles that is marked with the wartime code of "cad" on top of the scope tube, with the elevation adjustments on top graduations from 1 to 8. The rifle has unnumbered milled barrel bands with a wartime stamped trigger guard and floor plate with the single Eagle 135 Waffenamt proof. It has a correct mid-war bolt with the bolt rib on the side with a unnumbered milled safety. The rifle is equipped with a ramp front sight and tangent rear sight graduated to 2,000 meters. The rifle has a late war laminated stock and handguard with cupped buttplate. The right side of the buttstock is marked with a "eagle / WaA135" proof.
BBL: 24 inch round
Stock: laminated
Gauge: 7.92 mm Mauser
Finish: blue/phosphate
Grips:
Serial Number: 68674
Condition: Excellent overall with 97% of the original blue finish overall on the rifle, with wear on the edges and high spots overall with some minor wear on the bolt and cycling the action and the barrel bands. The trigger guard and floor plate retain most of the original phosphate finish as does the bolt assembly (except the safety, which is blued) overall with minor edge wear. The stock and handguard are both in near excellent condition with minor handling marks, and light pressure dents from actual use, with both have been stained dark but not sanded. The scope is in very fine condition with 90% original blue showing wear on the both the ocular and objective eyepieces of the scope with light rust starting to form on the scope overall. The optics are clear but the reticule is slightly tilted to the left and the elevation knob is stuck and the markings are clear and distinct. The rifle itself has matching numbers on the bolt and bolt cocking piece with the barrel bands, trigger guard, floor plate and safety unnumbered. The scope is an original turret model, but does not match this rifle. A nice original example of a WWII 98K turret sniper rifle.
