This is a late production Mauser P.08 Luger pistol as manufactured in 1937. As noted this model is a later production version that has the all blued finish with the checkered walnut grips. The top of the chamber is dated "1937" and the front toggle has the wartime code of "S/42" for the Mauser factory at Oberndorf. The right side of the barrel extension has the early double droop wing "eagle/63 Waffenamt" proof next to the single eagle firing proof. It has the standard "GESICHERT" and "GELADEN" extractor and safety markings and is complete with one all blued unmarked magazine that has an aluminum base, with only a very faint number "92" over a single eagle 63 Waffenamt proof.
BBL: 4 inch round
Stock:
Gauge: 9 mm Luger
Finish: blue
Grips: walnut checkered
Serial Number: 279x
Condition: Very fine with a solid 95% of the original blue finish remaining, with wear and on the edges and high spots, with minor wear on the front edges of the frame rails, the side plate hump the left side of the muzzle area and stock lug area and lower front grip strap area with some very minor thinning on the grip straps themselves. The replacement grips are in very fine condition with sharp checkering, on both sides, with only a couple of light pressured dents, however they do not quite fit the frame opening. The pistol itself has all matching numbers except the magazine as noted above and the grips. A nice example of a pre-WWII luger pistol.
