Desirable U.S. Springfield trapdoor rifle with Metcalf device, .45 cal., 32-1/2” barrel, blue and case hardened finish, full wood stock, iron ramrod, sling swivels, #61981. This gun is in overall good to very good condition showing a plum brown patina on barrel with some scattered erosion and pin prick pitting, traces of case color on trapdoor with case hardening on lock plate gone to silver and brown, dark bore, very good markings, very good wood stock with crisp circle “P” and inspector cartouche on left side above trigger assembly; Metcalf device on right side of frame in front of lock plate (cartridge holder not included) showing considerable remaining original blue. A hard-to-find variation of the famous Springfield Trapdoor military rifle. Est.: $1,875-$2,750.
