Desirable U.S. Springfield Model 1892/96 Krag Conversion Rifle
This is a rare early production Model 1892 rifle that went through the Springfield Arsenal conversion process. These were the primary rifles used in the Spanish-American war, which were subsequently converted into a Model 1896 configuration rifle. The side of the receiver retains the original marking of "US / 1895. SPRINGFIELD ARMORY" next to the serial number. It has the new style split upper barrel band, the rear handguard extends over the top of the receiver, it is equipped with the Model 1986 rear sight, buttplate with the curved toe and the stock with the ramrod channel filled. The left side of the stock is marked with a boxed "JSA over 1897" (date faint) cartouche and a script "P" circle proof in the grip area. It is complete with the three piece cleaning rod and oiler in the buttstock trap and an original brown leather sling.
