Desirable U.S. Springfield Armory Type 2 National Match Rifle with Shipping Box Labeled From Camp Perry to the Newport Rifle Club

Manufactured by Springfield Armory in 1963. Approximately 3,630 of these Type 2 National Match rifles were made. The front sight is marked "NM/062", rear sight "595" on the cylinder, "NM" on the shank and windage knob, "NM/2A" on the right side base, with "NM" marked barrel, gas tube and operating rod, Springfield "9-51" dated barrel with "inverted T, P, cross, T, inverted heart" markings, matching partial numbers inside the floor plate and inside the stock barrel channel, Springfield safety, hammer and trigger housing and "7790722 RA" operating rod. The stock is fiberglass bedded, with glued front handguard, The Department of Defense stamp is on the left side, circled "P" with serifs on the pistol grip, checkered buttplate and a green canvas sling. With an original shipping box with mailing label postmarked Sept. 16, 1975 from the National Match Support Mission to an individual at the Newport Gun Club, Inc., Junior Division and photocopy of Springfield Research Service data with "Remarks"; "With original cardboard shipping box dated 9/16/75 from Camp Perry to Newport Rifle Club, New Port R.I. Rifle Club Documentation."

Excellent. , The rifle retains 98% of the original parkerized finish, showing a few minor handling marks overall. The stock is also excellent with a dent on the underside near the front sling swivel and some minor pressure marks and scratches overall. The box is fine, with a few small holes and pasted-over markings. Mechanically excellent.
