This example of a pre-War of 1812 U.S. Springfield Model 1795 is a Type III Flintlock Musket with the integral forged flash pan and trigger guard with rounded finials. Brass blade front sight on the barrel band, with a bayonet band near the muzzle "P/ eagle head / V" on the left side of the breech. The lock plate is dated "1810" behind the hammer and marked ahead of the hammer is the script "US" over the eagle/shield motif above "SPRINGFIELD" in an upward curve. Smooth straight grip stock with three spring secured barrel bands, sling swivels and "1810" marked on the buttplate. All inspector marks are present with "LS" on bottom with script "US" over "V" on left stock flat. Complete with "US" marked socket bayonet.

Condition: Very good. The musket has a smooth dark patina with an area of smooth gray patina on the barrel from the muzzle to the first barrel band. The stock is very good with some minor dings and scratches with an area of chipping along the ramrod channel. A noticeable period repaired chip and a corresponding missing chip are found surrounding the upper tang with "J.D.F." carved in front of the trigger and the letters "F" and "X" on the buttstock. The bayonet is also very good with a smooth dark patina with a few minor dings. Mechanically fine.
