Desirable U.S. Inspected Rogers & Spencer Army Model Percussion Civil War Revolver

This is one of the approximately 5,800 percussion revolvers manufactured circa 1863-65 by Rogers & Spencer of Willowdale, New York. The U.S. Ordnance contract was for 5,000 revolvers. There is no record of issuance of any of these revolvers due to the Civil War ending. The top strap is marked "ROGERS & SPENCER/UTICA NY". The matching numbers are found on the butt, cylinder, loading leaver, frame and barrel. There are small single letter "B" inspection marks on most of the parts, including the bottom of each grip panel. Finished blue with casehardened hammer, trigger and loading lever assembly and fitted with smooth walnut grips with a sharp "RPB" cartouche on the lower left panel.

Fine. The revolver retains 40% original blue finish with a smooth gray patina on the balance. The hammer, trigger and loading lever retain traces of original case colors. A number of marks are present on the cylinder. The grips are fine with a minor chip missing and a heavily worn area near the bottom of the right panel with a series of minor pressure dents on the bottoms. The cartouche is excellent. Mechanically fine.
