Desirable U.S. Colt Artillery Model Single Action Army Revolver with Factory Letter

In 1895, a number of U.S. Colt Cavalry Single Action Army Revolvers, like this one, were returned to either the Colt factory where they were refurbished into Artillery Models, often with little regard to which gun the parts came from, resulting in a mix of serial numbers and markings. This revolver has a 5 1/2 inch barrel, casehardened frame and hammer, and blue remaining parts. This particular revolver has the serial number "56810" on the frame, "2210" on the barrel, "115956/G" on the trigger guard, "9858" on the cylinder and "95724/G" on the back strap. Standard one line address on top of the barrel, "P" and "A" marked on the bottom of the barrel. The left side of the frame is marked with the three line, three patent dates followed by "U.S.". The cylinder and bottom of the frame above the serial number are marked with "D.F.C.". Standard blade front and frame notch rear sights and is fitted with a smooth one-piece replacement walnut grip. The accompanying factory letter verifies serial number 56810 as 45 caliber, blue finish, barrel length and grips as "Not Listed" and that it was delivered to the U.S. Government Inspector at the Colt Plant as 1 of 150 on May 26, 1880.

Very good. The metal surfaces have a smooth gray patina. There is a small amount of scattered minor pitting and a few minor dings. The undersized replacement grip is good with a few minor dents and handling marks. The markings are clear. The action is fine.
