Desirable Second Model 1866 Allin Conversion Single Shot Rifle

Second Model 1866 Allin Conversion rifle manufactured around 1866-1868. These were the true transition rifle from the Civil War muzzle loading rifles to the 1869 Springfield breech loading/trapdoor style rifles. These Second Model Allin Conversions used an improved more simplified conversion than the First Model conversions solidified the Trapdoor design. These new trapdoor breech blocks had a center fire firing pin with an internal extractor that eliminated the old rack and pinion extracting mechanism from the First Models. It has correct two position rear sight mounted on the barrel ahead of the breechblock hinge/base and the top of the breechblock is marked "1866/Eagle head". Standard lock marking with "1865" at the rear. The stock is the correct full length military version that has two oval cartouches, one is faint and "S" behind the trigger plate. Comes with an original cleaning rod.

Very fine as arsenal refurbished with a very nice armory bright polish on the metal parts and 15% of the oil blackened finish on the breech block and hinge. The hammer and lock plate retain 80% of the subdue case colors. The stock is excellent with minimal handling marks and some reduced wood in front of the lower toe area of the stock.
