Desirable Rare Winchester Model 1894 Trapper's Carbine with ATF Exemption Letter
This Winchester Model 1894 Trapper's Carbine was manufactured in 1909. The carbine has a 15-inch round barrel and a saddle ring on the left side of the receiver. The barrel is fitted with a block-mounted, steel front sight and a folding, adjustable leaf rear sight. The barrel, bands, magazine, receiver, loading lever and carbine buttplate are blued. The hammer has a casehardened finish. The straight grain walnut stock and forearm have an oil finish. The left side of the barrel is roll-stamped with the two-line legend: "MANUFACTURED BY THE WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. / NEW HAVEN CONN. U.S.A. PATENTED AUGUST 21. 1894." ahead of the lower barrel band. "- NICKEL STEEL BARREL- /ESPECIALLY FOR SMOKELESS POWDER" is roll-stamped in two lines on the left side of the barrel below the rear sight, followed by " the caliber designation: ""30 W.C.F.". Oval Winchester proof marks are stamped on the top of the barrel and the receiver. The upper receiver tang is roll-stamped: "MODEL 1894 / -WINCHESTER- / TRADE MARK REG.IN U.S. PAT.OFF." in three lines. The serial number is located on forward edge of the lower receiver. The carbine is accompanied by a letter from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives that identifies the Winchester Model 1894 Carbine, serial number "505019" with factory fitted, 15-inch barrel as a "curio and relic" item.

Condition: Refinished overall. The barrel and magazine and loading lever have a copper-blue finish. The receiver and buttplate are a deep blue. There is scattered surface rust on the barrel; the markings are light but legible. The receiver has some light surface rust and some shallow pitting is visible beneath the blue finish. The stock and forearm have been sanded and re-finished. Legal 15 inch Model 1894 Trapper's Carbines are rare and very desirable in any condition.
