Desirable Pre-World War II Winchester Model 70 Bolt Action Carbine in Scarce 7mm Caliber

This is an example of a Winchester Model 70 carbine in the scarce 7 mm or commonly termed the 7 x 57mm caliber. This caliber was introduced to the Model 70 line in 1937 and discontinued in 1949, so standard production was very limited and is one of the most difficult calibers to locate today. This example was manufactured in 1940. The carbine has standard Winchester markings including the factory oval proof on the left side of the barrel and receiver at the breech. Hooded ramp front sight, elevation adjustable rear sight and receiver tapped for scope/sight mounting. Polished bolt with illegible number, pre-war safety, cloverleaf receiver tang and sling swivels. Checkered straight comb pistol grip stock with checkered steel buttplate.

Very good as partially refinished. The carbine retains 70% original blue finish showing some high edge wear and some minor scratches. The rear section of the barrel is a smooth artificial brown-gray patina with some minor pitting. The refinished stock is very fine with a few very scattered mild handling marks and overall crisp re-cut checkering. Mechanically excellent.
