Desirable Pre-World War II Two-Digit Serial Number Colt 38 Super Semi-Automatic Pistol

This is an outstanding example of a very rare two-digit serial numbered Colt pre-war Model 1911 pistol chambered in the highly desirable 38 Super cartridge. This specific pistol was manufactured in the beginning of 1929; the first full year of 38 Super production. The right side of the frame has the early serial number "41" stamped behind the slide stop hole with a number 20 inspection mark on the right trigger guard bow. The upper left front of the trigger guard bow is stamped: "1 over the Colt Triangle VP" proof mark. The right side of the slide has the early style markings of "COLT/SUPER 38/AUTOMATIC" in two lines followed by the Rampant Colt. The left side of the slide also has the early, two-line Colts Hartford address over the 1897-1913 patent dates and the correct matching serial number "41" stamped under the firing pin stop. It features the correct pre-war square notched rear sight, with the checkered slide release and thumb safety lever, arched and checkered main spring housing and wide spur hammer. This excellent early pistol is fitted with the standard checkered walnut grips. The base plate of the two tone magazine is correctly marked: "COLT SUPER/38 AUTO".

Manufucture: Colt

BBL: 5 inch round
Stock:
Guage: 38 Colt super
Finish: blue
Grips: walnut checkered
Serial Number: 41

Very fine with 85% plus of the original Colt blued finish, with edge and high spot wear overall with thinning on the front grip strap. The front sight has been filed down slightly. The grips are fine with nice original checkering showing light wear across the tops of the checkering on both sides. A very nice example of a very early production two digit serialized Colt 38 Super Auto Pistol.
