This is a very nice example of an original, pre-war Krieghoff Luger that was produced under contract for the German Luftwaffe. These Krieghoff Lugers all featured the high polish commercial blue style finish with straw colored small parts. The Krieghoff Luger was the only officially approved Luger that was used by the Luftwaffe. It is estimated that approximately 2500 Lugers were produced in 1937. The specific pistol is a fairly late 1937 production model that has the correct C-2 type marking on the toggle that consist of "H-K anchor/Krieghoff/Suhl" which has the letter "I" over the letter "S" in Suhl with the slightly angled letter "U" with the right corner faulted. The right side of the barrel extension has the early "LWaA1st-stage II" inspection stamp with the Luftwaffe acceptance proof. The barrel is correctly marked on the underside with the bore diameter, "LWaA" inspection proof then the serial number along with a second Luftwaffe barrel proof on the right side. The full serial number is on front left side of the barrel extension, bottom of barrel, and front of the frame, and the last digits of the serial number "47" are on the trigger, breech bolt, takedown lever, thumb safety lever, side plate, and toggle assembly. The magazine hold open is unmarked and most likely a replacement. The extractor and safety are correctly marked "GELADEN" and "GESICHERT" respectively. It is fitted with a correct pair of Krieghoff brown plastic grips with the coarse checkering and smooth border around the edges with no mold marks or proofs on the back side. It is complete with a non-matching WWII Mauser magazine that has the unmarked nickel plated body with the aluminum base stamped with serial number "5900g" with the early "Eagle/63 Waffenamt" proof on the base.
BBL: 4 inch round
Stock:
Gauge: 9 mm Luger
Finish: blue
Grips: brown plastic checkered
Serial Number: 8047
Condition: Very fine with 75% of the faded original pre-war Krieghoff blued finish with some minor wear on the edges and high spots overall with actual blue loss on the front sight barrel band, the right frame rail with some light thinning on the grip straps. There is also some cold blue present on the hump of the side plate, which looks like it has been slight reduced in height. The small parts retain 20% of their original straw colors. The grips are in excellent condition with nice sharp checkering over both sides. A very fine example of an early prewar Krieghoff company, Luftwaffe contract Luger.
