Estimate: $15000 - 20000
Manufacturer: Krieghoff Heinrich Gun Co Model: P.08
This is an example of a 1937 dated P.08 Krieghoff Nazi Luftwaffe contract Luger pistol rig. These early Krieghoff Lugers have the typical high polish commercial blue finish with the straw colored small parts with the distinctive brown checkered grips. The total numbers of Krieghoff pistols actually manufactured for the Luftwaffe during WWII are estimated at approximately 13,000 with only 2,500 total produced in 1937, which makes the survival rate extremely low in comparison to the standard WWII Luger pistol. The top of the chamber area has the 1937 date with the " H-K Anchor/Krieghoff/Suhl" logo on front toggle. The right side of the barrel extension and left side of the barrel has the early drooped-wing Luftwaffe Eagle firing proof next to the double "Eagle/2" acceptance proof, which is also located on the front edge of the frame rail. The underside of the barrel has the full serial number, along with the "Eagle/2" proofs and the bore diameter. It is serial numbered in the military style with the full serial number (9473) on the barrel, barrel extension and frame with the last two digits of the serial number (73) on the small parts. The extractor and ejector are marked "GELADEN" and "GESICHERT" respectively. It is fitted with two matching nickel plated magazines with the aluminum bases. Each base is stamped with a single "Eagle/2" Luftwaffe proof over the serial number with no other marks. It is complete with a brown 1937 dated leather holster. The back of the holster is stamped "O. REICHEL/LENGEFELD/Eagle WaA142/1937".
BBL: 3 7/8 inch round
Stock:
Gauge: 9 mm Luger
Finish: blue
Grips: brown plastic checkered
Serial Number: 9473
Condition:
Very fine with 90% of the slightly faded original blue finish overall with wear on the edges and high spots, with thinning on the frame rails, with some minor blue touch up on the left side of the muzzle area. The various small parts retain 20% of their straw colors overall mostly in the protected areas. The grips are both excellent with minimal handling marks. The holster is very good overall with numerous light scratches and handling marks overall with some fading of the color on the front of the holster mixed with some light age cracking. The stitching is tight and has never been polished or altered. As noted this early Krieghoff Luger has all matching parts to include both magazines. A very nice example of a 1937 Dated Krieghoff/Luftwaffe P.08 Luger rig.
