This is an attractive example of an pre- WWII Krieghoff "S" code Luger as manufactured in limited quantities for the Luftwaffe. This Luger is marked with the early "S" code over the chamber which was the secret wartime code indicating manufacture in 1936. The specific pistol is a mid-production model with serial number "3602" that still retains the "S" code marking. It has the regular features such as the C-1 die marked toggle that has the "H" Krieghoff Anchor "K" with "KRIEGHOFF /SUHL" marked below that. The left point of the anchor nearly touches the letter "H" and the word "SUHL" is slightly off-set so that the "I" in Krieghoff is slightly ahead of the letter "S" in SUHL with the flat bottom on the letter "U". The right side of the barrel extension is marked with the early "LWaA" 1st-stage 1 early Luftwaffe acceptance proof followed by the Luftwaffe test proof and small "Eagle/2" proof. The underside of the barrel is marked with the bore diameter, early "Eagle/2" acceptance proof and the small size full serial number. It has the typical military style serial number placement with the full serial number on the front frame, barrel and left side of the barrel extension with the last two digits on the various small parts. The pistol is fitted with a set of original Krieghoff brown checkered plastic grips with the small fine checkered pattern with the smooth border around the edge of each grip panel as manufactured by the Ritzmann firm. The back side of each grip panel has the correct mold numbers that consist of a small circled "HRS" for the Herman Ritzmann & Sohne company and number "8964" impressed into the plastic. The pistol is complete with one original matching Krieghoff magazine that has the nickel plated magazine body with cast aluminum base. The side of the magazine body is marked with "HAENEL SCHMEISSER PATENT" with a small "Eagle L" Police proof. The aluminum base on the magazine is numbered "3602" with a single "Eagle / 2" proof, stamped backwards above the serial number. There were only about 4,000 "S" code Luger produced during this year of manufacture.
