Desirable Pre-64 Winchester Model 70 Bolt Action Carbine in Scarce 7mm Caliber

This is an example of a Winchester Model 70 carbine in the scarce 7 mm caliber or commonly termed the 7 x 57mm caliber. The caliber was introduced to the Model 70 line in 1937 and discontinued in 1949, so the standard production was very limited and is one of the most difficult calibers to locate today. This example was manufactured in 1942, with the underside of the barrel marked "7 mm" and "38". The carbine has a hooded ramp front sight, elevation adjustable rear sight and a receiver tapped for scope/sight mounting. Cloverleaf receiver tang, Tilden safety, polished bolt numbered to the gun and sling swivels. The straight comb pistol grip stock is checkered and has a checkered steel buttplate.

Very fine. The carbine retains 85% original blue finish showing loss at the muzzle, smooth gray patina on the buttplate and smooth brown patina on the floor plate. The stock is very fine with some minor pressure dents and scratches with overall crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent.
