This is a desirable example of a Mauser Banner P.08 with Austrian Bundes Heer (Federal Army) "Eagle BH" markings. Approximately 200 of these pistols were manufactured with a four digit serial number and no suffix for the Austrian Federal Army for experimental purposes circa 1934 to 1936. The pistol has the Mauser "Banner" on the front toggle link and the Austrian "Eagle BH" Army markings on the left side of the frame directly below the takedown lever. There is a commercial "eagle/N" proofmark on the left side of the barrel extension ahead of the serial number. The left side of the frame is marked "P.08". The matching serial number is also marked on the front of the frame. The partial serial number, "17", is stamped on both toggle links, the side plate and takedown lever. The extractor and safety are marked "GELADEN" and "GESICHERT" respectively. The pistol has the correct salt blue finish with blued small components, fixed sights, blue magazine with aluminum base, numbered to another gun and fitted with unmarked checkered walnut grips.
BBL: 4 inch round
Stock:
Gauge: 9 mm
Finish: blue
Grips: walnut
Serial Number: 1717
Condition: Excellent. The pistol retains 97% original blue finish with muzzle and high edge wear, thinning on the grip straps and some scattered minor dings and scratches. The grips are very fine overall with some wear and nicks on the right panel, some front edge wear and a moderate pressure dent on the left panel, with overall crisp checkering. The markings (some highlighted in white) are crisp and clear. Mechanically excellent.
