Desirable Martially Inspected Civil War Remington Model 1861 Navy Percussion Revolver

Remington manufactured approximately 7,000 Model 1861 Navy revolvers (a.k.a. Old Model Navy) in 1862 with this example being U.S. martially marked. The top barrel flat is marked "PATENTED DEC. 17, 1861/MANUFACTURED BY REMINGTON ILION, N.Y." The patent was for the grooved lever to allow the cylinder pin to be pulled forward without lowering the loading lever. This was William Elliot's patent. Single letter "J" inspector marks are stamped on most of the major components with the left grip panel have a clear script "CGC" boxed cartouche. The aforementioned cartouche is also found on the rare U.S. Contract Henry rifles! The barrel is numbered to the gun.

Fine. The revolver retains 30% plus original blue finish with a smooth brown-gray patina on the balance. The grips are very fine with a series of minor pressure dents on the bottoms, a couple small chips missing near the bottoms and some minor handling marks. The cartouche is excellent. Mechanically fine.
