Desirable Loewe & Company Model 1893 Borchardt Semi-Automatic Pistol

This is a fine, example of an early, Ludwig Loewe & Co., Model 1893 Borchardt pistol. These early Borchardts were all manufactured by the Loewe Company with the later examples being made by DWM. The chamber area of the barrel extension is marked in three lines: "WAFFENFABRIK/ LOEWE/BERLIN" and the right side of the receiver is marked "SYSTEM BORCHARDT PATENT.". The top of the toggle link is stamped "N.R.P./No. 75837". The pistol serial number "568" is visible on the stock lug, the bottom of the pistol grip, the left side of the trigger, the left side of the toggle link, and the underside of the barrel ring. The left side of the barrel has the standard "Crown over B, U and G" proofs, while the left front edge of the barrel extension, the left side of the breechblock and toggle assembly have the standard Crown over the "B and U" acceptance proofs. The pistol is fitted with the an unnumbered set of walnut grips and comes complete with one original magazine with an unnumbered wooden base. This is a really nice example of a scarce early Borchardt pistol, that is rarely found without all the accessories, which do come up for sale, on a periodic basis.

Manufacture: Borchardt
Model: 1893
BBL: 7 1/2 inch round
Stock:
Gauge: 7.65 Borchardt Auto
Finish: blue
Grips: walnut checkered
Serial Number: 568

Very fine as partially restored (grips, nitre blued parts only) with 85% plus of the blue finish overall with wear and blue loss on the edges and high spots with more thinning and blue loss on the grip straps with a hint of very fine pin-prick type pitting on the front strap. The nitre blued components are all professionally redone. The professionally made replacement grips are near mint and are in near perfect original configuration. Mechanically excellent. A nice early pistol that would certainly be the center piece of any advanced Luger or Borchardt collection.
