Desirable Late Production U.S. Springfield Model 1898 Krag Bolt Action Rifle

This is a very fine example of a U.S. Springfield Model 1898 Krag rifle. These rifles were the standard service rifle from 1892 until 1903 when the 1903 Springfield was introduced with this one being produced towards the end of the production in 1902. The left side of the receiver is marked "U.S./MODEL 1898. SPRINGFIELD ARMORY/402526". These rifle has integral front sight base with the pinned blade front sight and an adjustable ladder rear sight graduated from "2 to 20", (200-2000 yards). It has the milled barrel bands, trigger guard and buttplate. It is fitted with a full-length walnut stock and top handguard. The stock has a boxed script, "JSA/1902" inspection cartouche on the left side and a single circled script "P" proof in the pistol grip area. It has the blue finish with the dark oil quenched case hardened receiver and the Armory bright polish bolt.

BBL: 30 inch round
Stock: walnut
Gauge: 30-40
Finish: blue
Grips:
Serial Number: 402526

Very fine with 90% plus of the original blue finish overall with some light fading of the case colors on the receiver and side plate with blue wear on the trigger guard and buttplate. The re-oiled stock and handguard are both very fine, with a nice matching medium brown oil finish overall and two-three large gouges on the under side of the stock from a rifle rack. The cartouches and proofs are excellent. A very nice late production Krag rifle.
