This is a no series Type 44 carbine as produced in the Kokura Arsenal. This carbine is actually a very late production model that was produced fairly close to the highest recorded serial number range that being approximately 69,000. The top of the receiver has the Royal Chrysanthemum (which has been lightly ground) and the Kanji markings for Type 44. The left side of the receiver has the serial number (67881) along with the Kokura Arsenal mark and a subinspector mark after that. It has the early short staff rear sight similar to the Type 38 carbines with the open "V" rear and inverted "V" front with guards. It is equipped with the type three, folding bayonet assembly, flat buttplate with trap door, and the two piece stock design. The parts are all beautifully machined and blued with the small parts being straw colored and the bolt assembly remaining in the bright polished finish.
BBL: 19 inch round
Stock: hardwood
Gauge: 6.5 Japanese
Finish: blue
Grips:
Serial Number: 67881
Condition: Very fine with 90% plus of the original blued finish overall with wear on the edges and high spots with some slight blue fading on top of the receiver, and the area where the mum was ground off. The various small parts retain 90% of their original straw colors. The stock and handguards are both in very fine condition with most of the original wartime stock finish only minor handling mark and light pressure dents in various places, with just a slight separation of the two-piece stock, directly in front of the buttplate on the left side. Overall a very nice Japanese Type 44 cavalry carbine.
