This is a very nice example of a first year Colt ACE manufactured in mid-1931. These were originally developed as a training pistol that would duplicate the weight and feel of the full sized Model 1911 pistol. Several hundred were purchased by the Military for their training needs. This specific model has the lightweight frame with the full barrel (that does not have the floating chamber). The left side of the slide has the Colt two line factory address and patent dates next to the Rampant Colt. The right side is marked with the large "COLT .22 LONG/ RIFLE". The trigger guard is marked "W" over the Colt "VP" proofmark with the right side of the trigger guard marked with number "20" inspector mark. It has the standard blade front and adjustable aperture rear sight. It is fitted with the Colt factory checkered trigger, wide spur hammer, arched mainspring housing, checkered slide stop and thumb safety. It is fitted with a set of original Colt factory checkered walnut grips and is complete with one two-tone Colt marked 22LR magazine.
BBL: 5 inch round
Stock:
Gauge: 22LR.
Finish: blue
Grips: walnut checkered
Serial Number: 1260
Condition: Very fine with 90% of the original Colt factory blue finish with some slight thinning on the front grip strap, with blue loss on the front edges of the slide. The top/side of the slide has three old dark rust pit spots, with minor pitting, which has aged and darkened that shows some blue loss where someone tried to remove some of the rust. This could be professionally repaired which would dramatically improve the overall appearance. The grips are in excellent condition with nice sharp checkering and only minor handling marks. A very nice example of a first-year production Colt Model ACE pistol.
