Desirable Early Production Three Digit Serialized Loewe Manufactured Model 1893 Borchardt Pistol with Matching Magazine

This is a very nice early Model 1893 Borchardt semi-automatic pistol with the original matching magazine. These early model 1893 Borchardt pistols were the true forerunner of the world famous and historic Luger pistol. These pistols employed a unique toggling breech mechanism which was eventually adopted and refined by Georg Luger and later used throughout production of the Luger pistol. The top of the chamber area is marked "WAFFENFABRIK/LOEWE/BERLIN." with the top of the toggle mechanism carrying the German patent markings of "D.R.P./No. 75837". The right side of the barrel extension is marked "SYSTEM BORCHARDT PATENT". The left side of the breechblock, toggle mechanism and barrel extension are all marked with the early German commercial proofs of a "Crown/B" and "U" proofs, with the left rear section of the barrel marked with the fully German commercial proofs that consists of the "Crown/B", "U", and "G/172,28". It is fitted with a set of original grips that has the checkered, center section with the smooth border around the checkering. As noted this scarce early pistol is complete with a matching serialized magazine.

Manufucture: Loewe
Model: 1893 Borchardt
BBL: 7 1/2 inch round
Stock:
Guage: 7.63 mm Borchardt
Finish: blue
Grips: walnut checkered

Fine as period refinished with most of the blue finish remaining overall with edge and high spot wear. The various small parts and springs have also been niter blue. The markings are clear and sharp. The grips are very good with nice original checkering, finish on both sides and the left side showing some minor handling marks. The rifling in barrel is worn out. Still a very nice looking example of a rare early Borchardt semi-automatic pistol.
