This is a super nice example of a first issue model 1908 Military contract Luger pistol that was manufactured by the Erfurt factory. These 1908 Model Lugers were the first military Luger and were made from approximately 1911 to 1913. They can be easily distinguished by the lack of the stock lug on the rear of the grip strap and no magazine hold-open. They all featured a hand polished, rust blued finish with straw colored small parts with checkered walnut grips. The top of the chamber area is stamped 1912, for the year of manufacture along with the standard DWM marking on the front toggle. The left side of the barrel extension has the three standard Crown/Script letter proofs next to the Imperial Eagle proof. The underside of the barrel is correctly marked with the full serial number and the bore diameter. The front of the frame, left side of the barrel extension and underside of the barrel are correctly stamped with the full serial number and the remaining small parts are stamped with only the last two digits (31) of the serial number. These Erfurt produced lugers, typically were stamped with either a Crown over a script letter or "RC" Erfurt inspector proofs on the various small parts and this example is exactly like that. It has the original rust blued finish with the straw colored small parts. Currently it is complete with a nickel-plated magazine with the original wooden base that is marked with the serial number 8211+ along with a small Crown/Script D proof.
BBL: 4 inch round
Stock:
Gauge: 9 mm Luger
Finish: blue/straw
Grips: walnut checkered
Serial Number: 6331a
Condition: Excellent overall with 97% plus of the original rust blued finish with just some light wear on the edges and high spots overall, with some blue thinning on the left side of the muzzle area, and the very front edges of the frame rails. The various small parts retain 60% of their straw colors. While the grips have nice medium brown color on both sides with distinct checkering overall with only a couple of light pressure dents from a holster. Mechanically excellent. The pistol has all matching numbers except the magazine. The bluing on the grip straps is mostly intact which is where you see the most wear, making this a very desirable example of an early 1908 Model Luger.
