Desirable Early DWM Model 1900 Swiss Contract Luger Pistol with "Liechtenstein Shield" Army Crest

This is an example of a desirable early DWM Model 1900 Swiss military contract Luger that has the very rare small "Liechtenstein Shield" etched on the top rear toggle. The country of Liechtenstein is a very small land locked country situated between Switzerland and Austria,. The country was actually established by the Austrian family of Liechtenstein when it acquired the Fiefs of Vaduz and Schellenberg in 1699 and 1713. The country remained neutral during both WWI and WWII and remained in tact even today. At one time they maintained a very small Army of approximately 80 men which was later disbanded in the early 1920s. Obviously this pistol was purchased for their military use, consequently the total number purchased from Switzerland would have to have been extremely low. All of the regular military contract pistols are found in the 2000-5,000 serial number range. These Lugers have the early style features such as the dished toggles with toggle lock, flat/recessed breech bolt, no stock lug, grip safety, flat mainsprings, and fast taper barrel that is 4 3/4 inches long. This pistol has the standard "Swiss Cross in Sunburst" over the chamber and "DWM" scroll on the front toggle. The left side of the barrel extension has the standard Swiss Military Cross and Swiss control proof. These pistols were numbered in the commercial manner with full serial number on the barrel and frame with the last two or three digits on the various small parts. It still retains the original fixed blade front sight and "V" notch rear sight and is fitted with checkered walnut grips stamped with the partial serial number (761) stamped on the back of each grip. Comes with one original Swiss nickel plated wood bottom magazine.
