Desirable Early Colt Model 1902 Military Pattern Semi-Automatic Pistol

This is an excellent example of a desirable Colt Model 1902 semi-automatic pistol manufactured in the Military model configuration. Colt manufactured approximately 18,000 of this military model between 1902-1929 with this example manufactured 1903/04 time frame. The pistol has the checkered/cross hatched serrations on the front of the slide, rounded rear sight, rounded casehardened hammer, squared grip, 8 round magazine and casehardened lanyard loop on the lower left side of the frame. The pistol is fitted with black checkered hard rubber grips with "COLT" in a banner at the top and circled Rampant Colt in the center. The pistol has the high polish commercial blue finish, niter blue screws, rear sight, slide pin and trigger, blue barrel and blued later production replacement magazine marked "Cal 38 AUTO" on the base plate. The right side of the slide is marked "AUTOMATIC COLT/CALIBRE 38 RIMLESS SMOKELESS" behind the ejection port and "MODEL 1902" in front of the port. The opposite side of the slide is marked ""BROWNING'S PATENT"/PAT'D APR. 20. 1897/SEPTEMBER. 9. 1902." in a two line block followed by "COLT'S PATENT FIRE ARMS MFG. CO./HARTFORD. CONN. U.S.A.". The Rampant Colt motif is stamped on the left rear. The number 14223 has the last digit "3" as a factory error with the number "3" double struck.

Very fine with 75% plus of the original high polish blue finish overall with wear on the edges and high spots with the grip straps turning a brown patina. The grips are in very fine condition with minimal handling marks overall. Mechanically excellent.
