Desirable Early 1940 Date Walther "AC-40" P38 Pistol Rig with Two Matching Magazines and 1940 Dated Leather Holster

This is a very fine example of an original early Nazi "ac-40" code P38 that was manufactured by the Walther factory. This specific pistol is a standard issue fourth developmental series P38 pistol that was manufactured from November to December 1940, with approximately 10,000 produced in total. Although this seems to be a high production number they are actually a very rare early German Army contract pistol, that saw extremely high attrition rates, based on the number of years of actual wartime use. The left side of the slide is marked "P.38 ac/40" next to the serial number, "6549b". The right side of the slide has the single "Eagle" firing proof with the double "Eagle/359" acceptance proofs. In addition to the "ac/40" code markings on the slide, this pistol is correctly stamped with the small "ac" code marked on the left side of the trigger guard. The front of the barrel lug is marked with the full serial number "6549b" with a small "ac", on the underside of the barrel lug and the bottom of the locking block is stamped "549b". Both pieces carry the single Eagle firing proof on the left side with the "Eagle/359" Waffenamt on the right side. Since this is an early pistol the majority of the small parts also carry the standard "Eagle/359" Waffenamt. It is fitted with a set of matching dark-brown ribbed plastic grips that carry the correct manufacturers mold markings, "eagle/359" Waffenamt and last three digits (549) of the serial numbers on the back sides. This pistol is fitted with two matching magazines that are marked "P38" on the left side with a single "Eagle/359" Waffenamt on the spine with the base plate of each magazine stamped "6549b". This pistol rig is complete with an original WWII black leather P38 holster that is marked on the back "Eagle/WaA706/C.HEINICHEN/DRESDEN/1940".

Manufucture: Walther
Model: P38
BBL: 5 inch round
Stock:
Guage: 9 mm Luger
Finish: blue
Grips: black plastic
Serial Number: 6549b

Very fine with 85% of the original blue finish still remaining overall with wear on the edges and high spots with loss of finish on the grip strap and trigger guard bow. The right side of the slide has a small spot of fine corrosion/pitting just in front of the slide serrations, probably from sitting in a holster. The grips are in very fine condition with nice color on both sides. The holster is excellent with clear sharp markings, nice tight white stitching, and a nice dark black color showing only minor handling marks from use. As noted this pistol has all matching numbers to include both magazines. A fine early WWII production Nazi P38 rig.
