Desirable Deluxe Winchester Model 1895 Lever Action Rifle in Teddy Roosevelt 405 Caliber

This is a unique example of a Deluxe Winchester Model 1895 chambered in the very desirable "405 W.C.F." These Model 1895 rifles ushered in the completely new, modern lever action rifle that featured a larger non-detachable box magazine, with the action strength designed for a new group of powerful smokeless powder cartridges. These deluxe models are very rare and were produced on a very limited basis. They always featured highly figured deluxe walnut stock and forend, hand cut checkering on the forearm and pistol grip area with a raised sporting cheekpiece with a shadow line on the stock. This beautiful rifle has been fitted with factory sling swivels and a Winchester red rubber recoil pad. This rifle was manufactured in 1924 and features a Marbles number 57 bead front sight blade with an adjustable buckhorn rear sight. The left side of the barrel is marked "NICKEL STEEL BARREL/ESPECIALLY FOR SMOKELESS POWDER" and "405 W.C.F.". The left side of the action is marked with the two line factory address and patent dates, "MANUFACTURED BY THE WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN CONN. U.S.A." over the five Winchester patent dates for this model. The top of the barrel and left side of the receiver are stamped with the intertwined "WP" Winchester proof and the upper tang is marked "MODEL 95/WINCHESTER/TRADEMARK REG. U.S. PAT. OFF & FGN." This caliber was actually designed to hunt most large North American game as well as any African game and was a favorite of President Teddy Roosevelt, who used a similar rifle to shoot his various game animals.

Fine with 60% plus of the original Winchester blue finish overall with minor flaking on the right side of the receiver and underside of the box magazine from light handling, probably from laying in a rifle case. The deluxe wood is beautiful and features full figure throughout the butt and upper portion of the forend. 90% of the finish still remaining overall, mixed with minor handling marks. The checkering on both is nice and distinct showing minor handling marks and light wear across the tops of the checkered diamonds. The Winchester red rubber recoil pad is a replacement.
