Manufacturer: DWM Model: 1902 Carbine
This is a fine example of a desirable, original DWM Model 1902 Luger carbine rig that is complete with the matching walnut shoulder stock. These carbines were an early attempt to produce a lightweight rifle substitute, to compete with the Mauser Broomhandle carbines as well as all the other stocked pistols being produced in the late 19th and early 20th Centuries in Europe. The very distinguishable feature of these pistols is that they have a longer, 11 3/4 inch barrel, with the DWM factory frame hanger that holds the small walnut forend. This forend is also unique in that it is fitted with a small spring accelerator mechanism, that helps cycle the heavier/longer carbine length barrel during firing phase, by assisting the barrel/upper receiver back into battery. All these 1902 Luger Carbines have the early features such as: the long old style frame, flat mainspring, grip safety, dished toggles with toggle lock on the right side, and the recessed/flat breech bolt with the small spring extractor. The top of the chamber is blank and the front toggle has the DWM logo. The full serial number (24421) is correctly marked on the underside of the frame extension, and the underside of the barrel. The last two digits of the serial number (21) are marked on the bottom of the recoil lug, side of the grip safety, trigger, takedown lever, side plate, breech bolt, and toggle assembly. The forend is also unnumbered on the inside of the cutout for the frame extension. The grips are not numbered on the back side, however each one has a small asterisk stamp on the back sides. As noted this fine example of a 1902 Luger Carbine has the original attaching iron correctly numbered on top (423) that has been fitted with an original walnut shoulder stock, which is complete with a set of sling swivels on the lower area of the stock and underside of the forend. The stock also has the correct style plastic butt plate. This scarce pistol is complete with one original nickel plated magazine with a correct unumbered wood base. This desirable early luger carbine is complete with six (6) early original DWM 7,63 mm Luger cartridges that carry the head stamp "DWM/KK/471A". These cartridges are the very rare early type with brass color casings and primers with the truncated bullets, instead of the later cartridges that have the black casing to differentiate the hotter load from the same caliber used in all other Lugers of the period.
BBL: 11 3/4 inch round
Stock: walnut checkered
Gauge: 7.65 mm Luger Auto
Finish: blue
Grips: walnut checkered
Serial Number: 24421
Condition:
Very fine with 90% of the faded original blue finish remaining overall with wear on the edges and high spots and finish loss on the side plate hump and front grip strap. The walnut stock and forearm are both in very good condition overall with nice distinct checkering showing minor cleaning of the partially recut border around the checkering on both sides. The stock and forend both have a nice original dark walnut color with handling marks and some light pressure dents on the lower toe area of the stock. There is also a small crack, approximately 1 1/2 inches, just starting to show up on the right front edge of the forend. A very nice all original and unaltered completely matching 1902 DWM Luger Carbine.
