Desirable DWM/Mauser "American Eagle" Commercial Long Barrel Luger with "Safe and Loaded" Markings and Rare "A.F. Stoeger" Import Markings

This is a Mauser production, "V" serial number suffix, "Safe and Loaded" marked Luger with the desirable 6 inch barrel, with the rare "A.F. Stoeger" markings on the barrel extension. These were produced expressly for the US market and have the desirable "American Eagle" crest and is even rarer since it has the "A. F. Stoeger" markings. These early pistols are marked "GELADEN" and "SAFE" on the extractor and upper safety position, in lieu of "Geladen" and "Gesichert", with the early three digit commercial serial number with the "V" suffix, and American Eagle crest. The right side of the pistol is marked "GERMANY A.F. STOEGER, INC./NEW YORK." on the barrel extension and the right side frame rail is marked "LUGER -REGISTERED U.S. PATENT OFFICE". This pistol does not have any commercial proof, clearly indicating it is an early example. The only visible markings aside from the serial number is that the front of the frame is stamped "GERMANY" indicating export outside of Europe. The underside of the barrel is only stamped with a single number "5" with a matching number "5" in the same location on the underside of the barrel extension with no other proofs on either component. It has the standard commercial number placement with full serial number "495" on the front of the frame with the last two digits "95" only found on the trigger and take down lever. The side plate does not match (number 43). The barrel has the standard front and rear sight. It is complete with a nickel plated magazine with an unmarked wooden base.

Manufacture: DWM
Model: 1923
BBL: 6 inch round
Stock:
Gauge: 9 mm Luger
Finish: blue
Grips: walnut checkered
Serial Number: 495V

Excellent with 90% plus of the original blue finish overall with the barrel finish being a slightly different tint/color which may indicate it was installed by Stoeger after being imported into the US. 85% original straw colors remain. There is minor edge and high spot wear with some oxidation and browning on the grip straps. The walnut grips are in excellent condition with nice distinct checkering on both sides mixed with some minor handling marks. The side plate is a replacement. A very nice, exceptionally scarce A.F. Stoeger marked, American Eagle Model Luger pistol.
