Desirable Colt 3rd Model Dragoon with 8” barrel, Confederate marked “C. L. Dragoons” on the left rear of the barrel flat which this marking has been identified as the marking to designate Crocheron Light Dragoons who were an Alabamamilitia unit mustered into Confederate forces as Capt. Halloway’s company of Alabama cavalry during the Civil War. Refer Flayderman 5B– 034. This Colt 8” Dragoon is serial number 19512 and is one of less than a dozen believed to still exist byknowledgeable Colt collectors. This pistol remains in original good condition showing a light brown to gray patina finish with some faint traces of silvery case hardening where protected. The cylinder shows traces of cylinder scene. Thebarrel address is mostly visible. The C. L. Dragoons marking is light in the 1st half of the stamping but visible under magnification and absolutely genuine. The metal surfaces show some light to moderate scattered pitting and erosionand most of the pitting on the left lug of the barrel and forcing cone. The edges are fairly crisp. The grips are good with 30% to 50% varnish showing some edge wear from being carried mostly on the bottoms. The grips show a small chip and
