Lot of over 60. Lander County appointments for citizens to serve as deputy sheriffs. Appointments were for Austin and many small mining camps from 1905 to the 1930's. Many have letterhead of current county sheriff and are imprinted with a 6 point star badge. Appointments are for civil reasons: head of jurors, case worker. There is also the case of Harry Hodge appointed deputy sheriff on July 4th and 5th in 1909 to help with the 4th of July celebration. Bar Francis was appointed a deputy sheriff and later is the sheriff on the letterhead. Many of these may have been part of various posses or temporary appointments to deal with outlaws. H. A. Kearnes was appointed twice in 1922. And then there are 4 appointments on August 31, 1924. Who knows what other interesting stories await?City: County: LanderState: NV
