Deportation of 2,000 Refugees. Holocaus
Deportation of 2,000 Refugees. Holocaust related broadside of Nov. 8, 1940, issued in order to stop British authorities from deporting "2,000 tortured Jews, escaped from Nazi territory to the land of Israel." British authorities announced that illegal immigrants on board clandestine ships will be deported to Mauritius and placed in detention camps. "They who should fight Nazism...plan to use its system, by locking our brethren in camps...Stop the deportation!" The Haganah attempted to stop it by attaching a mine to the ship, but an error in calculation caused the death of 276 refugees. Even this act of despair did not stop the deportation, and the refugees from the Nazi Reich were dispatched to Mauritius and kept in camps until the end of World War II. In Hebrew, 51/2 x 91/2, printed one side. Fine and rare.
