Denver, CO - $1 Original Fr. 380 The First NB Ch. # 1016
Until this incredible numismatic rarity walked into the 2006 Denver American Numismatic Association convention, no one had any knowledge of its existence, although other Territorial number 1 notes from this bank had been known for many years. In fact, the other number one examples represented the entire census of Territorial number one notes from Colorado. This piece comes directly from the Moffat family, whose relative, C.H. Moffat, Jr., signs as Cashier on this note. The First National Bank of Denver was the first bank in Colorado to receive a national charter, and was long headed by legendary Colorado financier and railroad magnate David Moffat, for whom the Moffat Tunnel and Moffat County are named. This newly discovered note is the only serial number 1 ace known from any bank in Colorado, and one of a literal handful known from all Territorial banks combined. Fortunately for this generation of collectors, it is in a lovely state of preservation, with minimal traces of any circulation at all, befitting its status as the "A" or first note on the sheet. Bright Extremely Fine-About Uncirculated, a remarkable find and a true Colorado Territory trophy item fit for the very finest of collections.

Shipping: Coin/Currency (view shipping information)
